Airlines Open champion -- both returned
Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork. Nick Foles Jersey .com) - In the consolation round of the Progressive Legends Classic, the 14th-ranked VCU Rams will try to bounce back against the Oregon Ducks at the Barclays Center. VCU did not fare so well in the first contest of this two-day event, falling in embarrassing fashion against 12th-ranked Villanova on Monday (77-53). The loss spoiled an otherwise strong start to the campaign for the Rams, who are still 3-1 overall. They have back-to-back road games against Old Dominion and Illinois State to deal with following this bout. Oregon fell for the first time this season on Monday night, suffering a 70-63 loss at the hands of 19th-ranked Michigan in the semifinals of this event. The Ducks had rattled off victories over Coppin State (107-65), Detroit (83-66) and Toledo (78-68) leading up to the encounter with the Wolverines. They will play 11 of their next 12 games at home, beginning against Portland State on Sunday. This is the first meeting between these two teams, who have been among the nations best in recent seasons. The Rams run on creating turmoil on defense and they just couldnt seem to do it against Villanova. VCU forced only nine turnovers and allowed the Wildcats to shoot an even 50 percent from the floor. Too many of Villanovas scores came from close range, with the victors owning a 42-30 scoring edge in the paint. VCU didnt do very well to keep up, making only 37.3 percent of their overall shots, including a dismal 2-of-17 effort from 3-point range. Melvin Johnson and Briante Weber each scored 13 points in the losing effort. Surprisingly enough, the Rams 3-1 start has been predicated on offensive success more so than defensive strength. They are scoring 82.8 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting, although they were far from those numbers on Monday night. Johnson (17 ppg) and Treveon Graham (14.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg) are the most dangerous offensive weapons, while Weber (11 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.7 apg, 4.3 spg) is a jack of all trades. There were certainly some positives to be taken away from the game, but in the end, Oregon did not do enough to defeat Michigan. The Ducks owned the interior, with a 41-29 edge in rebounds and a 34-26 scoring advantage in the paint. However, they shot just a 39 percent from the field while being nearly doubled up in points at the free-throw line (23-12). Joseph Young was the leading scorer once again, netting 20 points, but he made only 5-of-16 shots from the floor, including a dismal 2-of-9 outing from the 3-point line. Dillon Brooks (14 points, seven rebounds), Elgin Cook (13 points, six rebounds) and Dwayne Benjamin (eight points, 11 rebounds) were instrumental in ensuring the Ducks had an edge on the inside. Young (24.5 ppg, 4.5 apg) is easily the top scorer on the roster, although he seems to have developed a bit more skill as a distributor this season, at least based on early returns. Brooks (13 ppg) and Cook (12.8 ppg) are the other double-digit scorers on the roster, with Benjamin (7.5 ppg, 9.2 rpg) scoring when he needs to, but making more of an impact on the glass. Jalen Ramsey Jersey . The South Africa international, who rejoined the club last month on loan from Tottenham, opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a powerful shot into the roof of the net. http://www.officialjacksonvillejaguarspro.com/Taven-bryan-jaguars-jersey/ . The goals took Liverpools tally in the Premier League this season to 70, overtaking Manchester City as the top scorers, and left the fourth-place team just four points behind league leader Chelsea. DURBAN, South Africa -- Raphael Jacquelin shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 in extremely windy conditions on South Africas east coast to take the first-round lead at the Volvo Golf Champions on Thursday. Jacquelin was the only player in the 36-man field not to drop a shot around Durban Country Club for a one-stroke advantage over defending champion Louis Oosthuizen. Darren Clarke, whose last title was at the 2011 British Open, was tied for third on 69 alongside Victor Dubuisson. Race to Dubai leader Thomas Bjorn was last after a 7-over 79 which included two double bogeys on the back nine, giving last months big-money winner at Sun City a tough start on his return to South Africa. Jacquelin is competing in his first tournament in around six weeks but the Frenchman picked up shots at Nos. 6 and 8 and finished with three birdies in his last five holes to stay just ahead of Oosthuizen. "Im better when the conditions are difficult and I just seem to score better whether it is in the wind or in the rain, or if the course is difficult," Jacquelin said. "I also stayed focused all day long and when you manage to save par in these conditions you are always going to have a good round. Thats the way I like to play." Jacquelin qualified for the $4 million tournament by winning his fourth European Tour title at last years Spanish Open following a tour record nine-hole playoff. Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys. Oosthuizen, the 2010 British Open winner, came into the event following a frustrating 2013 marred by a nagging back complaint. However, the blustery coastal conditions played right into the hands of the South African. "I grew up in Mossel Bay where the wind was born and then goes out to the rest of the country," he said. "So the conditions today were very much like back home and what I have been used to most of my life ... Its just good to get the feel of playing and competing again after all the weeks off." Clarke and Dubuisson -- the reigning Turkish Airlines Open champion -- both returned 69s, with Clarke already showing the benefits of a new fitness regime. But only 16 of the 36 players managed to break par in the testing conditions, with Denmarks Bjorn, Spanish veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez and South Africas former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel all struggling. Bjorn, who won the biggest check of his career at Sun City in his last tournament, bogeyed his first hole, added another two bogeys and two doubles and couldnt make a birdie. Three-time Hong Kong Open winner Jimenez also had two double bogeys in his 76 to sit joint second to last. Schwartzel had a double bogey and four bogeys in his 74 for a tie for 28th. ' ' '
